Overview

Released in Australia in December 2013, the Proton CR Suprima S was a small, five-door hatchback. Manufactured in Tanjung Malim, Malaysia, the front-wheel drive Suprima S was powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine; the engine was initially available with a continuously variable transmission (CVT, or Proton’s ‘ProTronic’) with seven pre-set ratios, though six-speed manual transmissions were subsequently introduced. As per the table below, the Suprima S range consisted of GX and GXR variants.

CamPro CFE engine

The 1.6-litre CamPro CFE engine had a cast iron block, an aluminium cylinder head, a low-pressure intercooled turbocharger (with maximum boost pressure of 0.75 bar or 10.9 psi), double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, variable intake valve timing and a compression ratio of 8.9:1.

Dimensions and suspension

Underpinned by Proton’s P2 platform which was shared with the Proton CR Prev , the Suprima S was 4436 mm long, 1786 mm wide, 1524 mm tall and had a 2650 mm long wheelbase. Furthermore, the Suprima S had MacPherson strut front suspension and independent, multi-link rear suspension.
