Overview

Released in June 2008, the Renault X91 Laguna range initially consisted of mid-size liftbacks, with wagon models following in September 2008. Manufactured in Sandouville, France, the Laguna was available with 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. Beyond the engine choices, the range also consisted of Expression, Dynamique and Privilege variants; the full range is given in the table below.

Dimensions and developments

Compared to the Renault X74 Laguna , the X91 Laguna liftback was 119 mm longer (at 4695 mm), 28 mm wider (1811 mm), 16 mm taller (1445 mm) and had a 16 mm longer wheelbase (2756 mm). Compared to the liftback, the X91 Laguna wagon was 106 mm longer (4801 mm) and 28 mm taller (1445 mm), though the width and wheelbase were unchanged.

The X91 Laguna also introduced a lower steering ratio (for greater manoeuvrability), a stiffer driving column, more effective soundproofing of the engine compartment and am externally-controlled high-capacity air conditioning compressor.

Suspension

The X91 Laguna had MacPherson strut front suspension and a torsion beam rear axle (both with coil springs, gas-filled dampers and anti-roll bars).

Safety equipment

Standard safety equipment for the Renault X91 Laguna included dual front airbags, front side airbags, rear side airbags, full-length curtain airbags (i.e. for front and rear occupants), ABS, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control and front and outer rear seatbelts with pretensioners and load limiters.

Euro NCAP crash testing

In Euro NCAP crash testing , a 2007 Renault Laguna liftback with a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine received a five star adult occupant protection rating with a score of 35.91 out of 37. In the frontal offset impact, the driver’s right lower leg was the only body region not to score maximum points. In the side impact test, the rear door on the impacted side opened during the test and the vehicle was penalised one point.
