Review: Peugeot A7.I 207 CC (2007-09)

Overview

Released in July 2007, the Peugeot A7 Phase I (A7.I) 207 CC was a two door convertible with a retractable hardtop roof. Manufactured in Madrid, Spain, the front-wheel drive 207 CC range consisted of two variants – the 1.6 and 1.6 GT – which were powered by 1.6-litre naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines, respectively.

Engines: EP6 and EP6DT

Of the engines,

  • The 1.6-litre EP6 had double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, variable valve timing for the inlet and exhaust camshafts and variable inlet valve lift; and,
  • The 1.6-litre EP6DT was distinguished by its twin scroll turbocharger and direct fuel injection.

While the EP6 engine was available with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission (the latter with a sequential shift function), the EP6DT engine was solely available with a manual transmission.

Dimensions

Compared to the Peugeot 206 CC , the 207 CC was 202 mm longer (at 4037 mm), 77 mm wider (1750 mm), 14 mm taller (1387 mm) and had a 98 mm longer wheelbase (2540 mm). Unlike its predecessor, however, the 207 CC’s power-folding roof did not have manual release handles and was fully automated, opening or closing in approximately 25 seconds at the touch of a button. With its roof in position, cargo capacity was 449 litres, though this decreased to 187 litres when the roof was stowed away.

Suspension and steering

The 207 CC had electric power steering, pseudo-MacPherson strut front suspension and a torsion beam rear axle.

Safety equipment

Standard safety equipment included dual front airbags, front side airbags, ABS, brake assist, electronic brake force distribution, automatically deploying rollover hoops and front seatbelts with pretensioners and load limiters. The GT variant was also equipped with electronic stability control and traction control.

Brakes

The 207 CC had 283 mm by 26 mm ventilated front brake discs and 249 mm by 9 mm solid rear discs.

Euro NCAP crash testing

In Euro NCAP crash testing , the 207 CC – fitted with a driver’s knee airbag which was not available in Australia – received a five star adult occupant protection rating with a score of 33.01 out of 37. This rating was accepted by ANCAP though this pre-dated ANCAP’s requirement that electronic stability control be fitted for a five star rating. In the frontal offset crash test, there was a slight risk of serious head, chest and leg injury for the driver. In the side and pole impact tests, however, maximum points were awarded.

Features: 207 CC and GT

Standard features for the 207 CC included 16-inch steel wheels with 195/55 R16 V tyres (including a full-size spare wheel), a six speaker sound system with a CD player, dual zone-climate control air conditioning, contoured front sports seats, cruise control, chilled glove box, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, remote central locking, power windows and mirrors, a height and reach adjustable steering wheel, height adjustable front seats, tinted windows, a trip computer and an immobiliser.

The 207 CC GT was further equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels with 205/45 R17 W tyres, automatic headlights, directional headlights, aluminium pedals, aluminium interior highlights and power folding exterior mirrors.
