Overview

Released in Australia in August 1987, the Maserati Biturbo was a five-seat coupe. In Australia, the Biturbo was solely available as the 2.5 Si variant, which was powered by a 2.5-litre V6 petrol engine with three valves per cylinder, twin overhead camshafts, Weber-Marelli fuel injection, two IHI water-cooled turbochargers and two air-to-air intercoolers (mounted at the front of the engine). The Biturbo was fitted with a five-speed ZF manual transmission as standard, though a three-speed automatic transmission could also be ordered.

Manufactured in Modena, Italy, the Maserati Biturbo was 4135 mm long, 1714 mm wide, 1305 mm tall and had a 2514 mm long wheelbase. The Biturbo’s front suspension consisted of MacPherson struts with dual-rate telescopic dampers, coil springs and an anti-roll bar. At the rear, the Biturbo had semi-trailing arms, coil springs and dual-rate hydraulic telescopic dampers. The Biturbo was also fitted with a Torsen limited slip rear differential.

The Biturbo was not fitted with safety equipment such as ABS or airbags.

Standard features for the Biturbo 2.5 Si included 14-inch alloy wheels with 205/55 VR14 tyres, air conditioning, leather trim, front fog lights, power windows and woodgrain interior trim.
