Hyundai MC Accent: rattling exhaust

In August 2012, Hyundai Canada issued technical service bulletin 12-20-004 for 2008-11 ‘model year’ Hyundai MC Accent vehicles that were manufactured after 25 February 2008. In these vehicles, there may be a rattling noise from the exhaust system due to the centre exhaust pipe separating from the front muffler hanger bracket due to corrosion. To fix, the front muffler hanger bracket (part no. 287851G300FFF) or front muffler assembly (part no. 286101G300) were to be replaced.

Hyundai MC Accent: Other problems and faults

  • The Hyundai MC Accent’s automatic transmission may not work in reverse gear due to maladjustment of the shift linkage (or transmission cable) between the gearshift selector and the transmission.
  • Rough engine idle following cold starts is indicative of the powertrain control module (PCM) requiring reprogramming.
  • The ‘low tyre pressure’ warning light may illuminate due to electromagnetic interference from electronic transmitters, but will usually go out when moving out of range. However, some electronic devices may also activate the warning light if they are plugged into the accessory power outlet.
  • Transmission fluid may leak from: 1) the front pump seal at the torque converter, requiring replacement of the pump seal; or, 2) the reduction brake piston cover, requiring replacement of two O-rings.
  • The oil seals may leak on the differential.
