Recalls: Hyundai XD Tucson

- In August 2005, a recall was issued for Hyundai XD Tucson vehicles due to incorrectly manufactured parking brake lever assemblies which could result in the parking brake failing to engage (PRA 2005/7939).

Hyundai XD Tucson V6: rough idle and ‘check engine’ light
In February 2008, Hyundai Canada issued technical service bulletin 08-20-004 for Hyundai XD Tucson vehicles with 2.7-litre V6 petrol engines that were manufactured prior to 25 March 2005. These vehicles may experience a rough idle and the ‘check engine’ light may illuminate due to loose air intake hose clamps around the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. To fix, a new band-type clamp (part no. 28192-2E500) was introduced that provided a more secure attachment (replacing the wire-type clamp, part no. 14711-90006B).
Hyundai XD Tucson: water ingress
For some early Hyundai XD Tucson models, water could leak onto the front floor and require a deflector to be installed below the fresh air intake grille. Furthermore, water could also enter the passenger compartment when raining or using a carwash if the air conditioning fan/blower was operating on high speed; if so, the fresh air intake area needed to be sealed.
Hyundai XD Tucson: Other problems and faults
- Knocking noises from the 2.0-litre engine may be caused by some aftermarket oil filters.
- Harsh or late gearshifts may be rectified with a software update. However, if this does not work, the engine or powertrain control modules may require replacement.
- Some Hyundai XD Tucson AWD models may not start in cold weather due to water freezing in the exhaust pipe between the converter and muffler.
- Oil may leak from the transaxle at the oil seals, yet appear to be a seam leak.
- The ‘low tyre pressure’ warning light may illuminate due to electromagnetic interference from electronic transmitters, but will usually go out when moving out of range. However, some electronic devices may also activate the warning light if they are plugged into the accessory power outlet.
- A problem with the radio could drain the battery dead if the vehicle was not drive for several days.
- Where fitted, the sunroof may rattle because the mounting screws became loose due to vibration, requiring lock washers or sealant.
