2007-08 Kia JB Rio 1.6i: rough idle

In April 2010, Kia Motors issued service bulletin 066 for Kia JB Rio vehicles with 1.6-litre petrol engine that were manufactured from 12 June 2007 to 30 June 2008. In these vehicles, there may be a rough idle after cold starts, the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) may illuminate and the following diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may be issued:

  • P0300: random/multiple cylinder misfire detected and/or rough idle state;
  • P0128: thermostat monitoring;
  • P0140: O2 sensor circuit no activity detected;
  • P0442: evaporative mission system – leak detected;
  • P0451: evaporative emission system pressure sensor/switch range performance; and,
  • P0461 or P0422: fuel level sensor ‘A’ circuit range/performance.

To fix, the engine control module (ECM) was to be updated.

2008-10 Kia JB Rio: creaking noise from front suspension

In December 2010, Kia Motors issued Technical Service Bulletin KCE10-21-P120-JB for Kia JB Rio vehicles which:

  • were manufactured from 1 January 2008 to 13 May 2010; and,
  • had VINs in the range KNADE243296446115 to KNADH411AA6724792.

According to the service bulletin, a creaking noise may be heard from the front suspension strut when driving over a speed bump due to the dust cover rubbing on the strut insulator assembly. To fix, urethane sealant was to be applied to the top of the front strut dust cover on both sides.

2008-10 Kia JB Rio: creaking noise from rear suspension

In November 2010, Kia Motors issued Technical Service Bulletin KCE10-21-P210-JB for Kia JB Rio vehicles which:

  • were manufactured from 1 July 2008 to 27 January 2010; and,
  • had VINs in the range KNADE123686432100 to KNADH411AA6674788.

According to the service bulletin, a creaking noise may be heard from the rear suspension when passing over a speed bump. To fix this, the rear strut insulator and retainer were to be replaced.

Problems and faults: Kia JB Rio

  • The Kia Rio’s CD player may not play, accept CDs or eject CDs; if so, the player may need to be reset by removing the power/memory fuse for five minutes or more.
