Recalls: Lexus 200-Series LX 570
Overview
Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: Lexus 200-Series LX
2013-19 Lexus 200-Series LX 570: low-pressure fuel pump may stop working
In April 2020 and November 2020, recall campaigns VGG17 and VGG05 were issued for Lexus 200-Series LX 570 vehicles that were manufactured from September 2013 to April 2019. In these vehicles, the low-pressure fuel pump could stop operating – if this occurred, the engine may stall and the vehicle may not restart; alternatively, the engine may not run smoothly. Beyond this, warning lights and messages may be displayed on the instrument panel. To fix, the low-pressure fuel pump was to be replaced. Lexus LX 570: Accessory Drive Belt Tensioner noise
In December 2008, Lexus issued Service Bulletin L-SB-0164-08 for 2008 Lexus LX 570 vehicles with VINs preceding JTJHY0#W*84005889. In these vehicles, an ‘abnormal’ noise may be heard from the engine accessory drive belt area. An improved accessory drive belt tensioner assembly was developed to keep the tensioner pulley in alignment with the other pulleys.
If the tensioner pulley was out of alignment,
- The drive belt and tensioner assembly were to be removed;
- The drive belt tensioner assembly replaced; and,
- The drive belt replaced.
Lexus LX 570: windscreen rattle
In May 2010, Lexus issued Lexus Service Bulletin L-SB-0090-08 Rev 1 for pre-2010 Lexus LX 570 vehicles. In these vehicles, a creaking, ticking or rattling noise may be heard at the top or bottom of the windscreen. According to the service bulletin, this may be attributable to:
- The two windscreen stoppers that are bottom to the top of the windscreen; or,
- The windshield retainers which are bonded to the lower edge of the windscreen.
2013 Lexus LX 570: won’t start and steering lock engaged
In May 2014, Lexus issued Tech Tip L-TT-0113-13 for 2013 model year Lexus LX 570 vehicles for the following symptoms:
- The vehicle would not start or ‘ready-on’; and,
- The steering wheel lock would be engaged such that the steering wheel could only be turned slightly.
If the driver tried to start or ‘ready-on’ the vehicle while there was tension on the steering lock actuator, it would not be able to fully disengage when the ‘Engine Start Stop’ or ‘Power’ switch was depressed. These circumstances would cause the vehicle message centre to display the ‘Steering Lock Engaged’ error message and the vehicle would fail to start or ‘ready-on’.
To overcome this problem, the driver was to move the steering wheel from side-to-side to relax tension on the steering lock actuator. Once the steering lock actuator was free to disengage, the driver would be able to start or ‘ready-on’ the vehicle the vehicle.
Problems and faults: Lexus 200-Series LX 570
- For driver’s door locks which are hard to operate with the key, an improved lock cylinder was subsequently released.
- A squealing noise from under the bonnet may be due to the misalignment of the accessory drive belt, requiring the installation of an improved tensioner.
- Engine oil leaks may be due to a defective O-ring on the dipstick tube.
- If there is a rattling noise from the third row seats, the striker may require replacement.
- If the ‘power stow’ function for the third row of seats does not work, the installation of a revised striker switch may be required. If the sunroof does not close, the module may need to be re-initialised.
