Recalls: Mazda LW MPV
Overview
Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: Mazda LW MPV
- In March 2003, a recall was issued for Mazda LW MPV vehicles due to a potential fire hazard as the fog lamp bulb sockets could come adrift from their mountings; this could enable the globes to make contact with the inner portion of the front bumper bar (PRA 2003/6062). This recall was re-issued in July 2003 (PRA 2003/6324).
- In July 2004, a recall was issued for Mazda LW MPV vehicles produced from 15 September 1999 to 28 February 2002 and in the VIN range M0LW10G100100525 to JM0LW10G100104067. For these vehicles, the plastic casing of the cruise control actuator cable may break, causing the cable to bind and prevent the throttle linkage/valve from returning to the closed position (PRA 2004/7098).
- In April 2005, a recall was issued for Mazda LW MPV vehicles produced from 10 June 1999 to 29 February 2000. For these vehicles, the automatic transmission gear-shift lever could come loose and fall out; this could result in the transmission gearshift lever moving without the driver’s input (PRA 2005/7657). In May 2005, a related recall was issued for this matter with respect to models in the VIN range JM0LW10G100 100007-JM0LW10G100101364 (PRA 2005/7733).

Mazda LW MPV: camshaft ticking noise
In July 2007, Mazda USA issued service bulletin 01-031/07 for Mazda LW MPV vehicles with 3.0-litre V6 petrol engines. In these vehicles, a ticking noise may be heard from the left bank cylinder head while the engine was running at its normal operating temperature. For the repair procedure, please refer to the service bulletin.
Mazda LW MPV: Other problems and faults
On early Mazda LW MPV models, the ‘check engine’ light may illuminate and indicate a problem with the oxygen sensors though the powertrain-control module simply requires reprogramming.
