Overview

Released in March 2011, the Chery S2X J1 was a light, five-door hatchback. Manufactured in Wuhu, China, the front-wheel drive J1 was powered by a 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that was mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The 1.3-litre SQR473F four-cylinder engine had double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and a compression ratio of 10.0:1.

The J1 was 3700 mm long, 1578 mm wide, 1564 mm tall and had a 2390 mm long wheelbase; kerb mass was 1040 kg. Furthermore, the J1 had MacPherson strut front suspension and semi-independent trailing arms rear suspension with a track bar.

Safety equipment

Standard safety equipment for the J1 included dual front airbags, ABS, electronic brake force distribution and front seatbelt pretensioners. The absence of electronic stability control, however, meant that the J1 was not available in Victoria.

ANCAP crash testing

In ANCAP crash testing , the J1 received a three star adult occupant protection rating with a score of 16.97 out of 37. In the frontal offset crash test, the passenger compartment lost structural integrity and protection from serious chest injury was poor for the driver.

Features

Standard features for the J1 included 14-inch alloy wheels, a six speaker stereo with a CD player, MP3-compatibility and an auxiliary input (3.5 mm), air conditioning, a four-way adjustable driver’s seat, 60/40 split rear seats, remote central locking, power windows and mirrors, a height adjustable steering column, cargo cover and an immobiliser.
