Review: Proton CR Prevé (2013-15)
Overview
Released in March 2013, the Proton CR Prevé was a small, front-wheel drive sedan. Manufactured in Malaysia, Prevé range initially consisted of GX variants which were powered by 1.6-litre petrol engines mated to either five-speed manual or six-speed continuously variable transmissions (CVTs). In December 2013, however, the turbocharged GXR variant was released.
CamPro engines
Developed by Proton and Lotus, the Prevé’s 1.6-litre CamPro (‘Cam Profiling’) engine had double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, a compression ratio of 10.0:1 and electronic throttle control. For the turbocharged CamPro CFE engine, a low-pressure turbocharger provided boost pressure of 0.75 bar, the compression ratio was lowered to 8.9:1 and the engine also featured a variable intake valve timing mechanism which continually adjusted cam phasing.
Dimensions and suspension
Compared to its CM Persona predecessor, the CR Prevé was 66 mm longer (at 4543 mm), 61 mm wider (1786 mm), 86 mm taller (1524 mm) and had a 50 mm longer wheelbase (2650 mm); boot capacity was 508 litres. Furthermore, the Proton Prevé had MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension.
