Kia UB Rio: steering wheel noise and vibration
In November 2011, Kia Motors issued service bulletin 084 for Kia UB Rio vehicles due to steering wheel noise and vibration. To fix, the steering wheel mounting nut and spring washer were to be removed and a new spring washer fitted.
Kia UB Rio: dashboard noise
In December 2011, Kia Motors issued service bulletin 086 for Kia UB Rio vehicles that were manufactured prior to 11 November 2011. In these vehicles, there may be a squeaking, rubbing or creaking noise heard from the upper instrument panel pad area during normal driving conditions or while going over bumps or rough roads; these noises may also be more prevalent at lower temperatures. To fix, the dash assembly was to be removed and a felt insulating material applied to each of the four contact tabs.
2012 Kia UB Rio 1.6 GDI: engine noise
In October 2012, Kia Motors issued service bulletin 125 (Rev 1) for Kia UB Rio 1.6 GDI vehicles that were manufactured from 9 August 2012 to 9 October 2012. In these vehicles, there may be a ‘rattling’ or ‘chattering’ engine noise under certain conditions. The service bulletin was issued as part of a service campaign that was to be conducted on vehicles before they were to be delivered to customers. The service bulletin described the noise test to be conducted and, if the noises were detected, the engine was to be replaced.
Kia UB Rio: water in passenger footwell
In June 2013, Kia Motors issued service bulletin 020 for the following Kia UB Rio vehicles:
- Kia Rio sedans: manufactured from 15 October 2011 to 20 September 2012; and,
- Kia Rio five-door hatchbacks: manufactured from 11 July 2011 to 20 September 2012.
In these vehicles, there may be moisture on the passenger side floor when the air conditioning is used. According to the service bulletin, this may occur due to insufficient insulation of evaporator lines which allow condensation to form on the lines; the condensation then drips onto the passenger floor. To fix, additional insulating material was to be fitted over the evaporator lines, including the lines from the evaporator core to the expansion valve.
Kia UB Rio 1.6 GDI: ECM update
In March 2015, Kia Motors issued service bulletin 146 (Rev 1) for 2012-14 ‘model year’ Kia Rio 1.6 GDI vehicles. In these vehicles, the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) may illuminate with the following diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) logged in the engine control module (ECM): P0456, P0461, P050A, P2188, P2192, P0128, P0326 and P0441. To correct this condition, the ECM was to be reprogrammed.
2011 Kia UB Rio: rain-sensing wipers operate every eight seconds
In October 2011, Kia Motors issued Technical Service Bulletin KCE11-92-P490-UB for Kia UB Rio vehicles that:
- had rain-sensing wipers; and,
- were manufactured from 1 July 2011 to 24 August 2011.
If the front windscreen wipers were operating in ‘auto mode’, the wipers might operate once at first and then keep operating every eight (8) seconds regardless of the amount of rain. To fix, the front wiper switch connector wire was to be re-worked.
2011 Kia UB Rio: incorrectly set drive belt tension
In January 2012, Kia Motors issued Technical Service Bulletin KCE11-92-P490-UB for Kia UB Rio vehicles that:
- Had Kappa or Gamma engines; and,
- Were manufactured from 26 July 2011 to 24 November 2011.
According to the service bulletin, some of these engines may have been produced with the incorrect drive belt tension. As such, the tension of the drive belt was to be inspected and, if necessary, adjusted.
2011 Kia UB Rio: creaking noise from driveshaft and front axle when turning
In August 2011, Kia Motors issued Technical Service Bulletin KCE11-92-P370-UB for Kia UB Rio vehicles that were manufactured prior to 19 July 2011. According to the service bulletin, these Kia Rio vehicles may emit a creaking noise from between the drive shaft and front axle when turning. To fix, both the left and right driveshaft washers were to be replaced.
2011 Kia UB Rio: power window noise
In August 2011, Kia Motors issued Technical Service Bulletin KCE11-31-P040-UB for Kia UB Rio vehicles that were manufactured from 1 June 2011 to 21 July 2011. According to the service bulletin, there may be an abnormal noise from the front and/or rear power window regulators when the windows were operated. To fix, the power window regulators were to be replaced with modified parts.
2011-13 Kia UB Rio: front stabiliser link replacement
In May 2016, Kia Motors America issued technical service bulletin CHA 066 for Kia UB Rio vehicles manufactured prior to 26 December 2013. In these vehicles, the driver may experience an abnormal noise from the front of the vehicle when driving over bumps or uneven surfaces. To fix, the front stabiliser links were to be replaced with improved parts. For the Kia UB Rio, the part number for the improved stabiliser links was 54830 2V000FFF.
2012 Kia UB Rio: manual gearshift lever vibrates when accelerating in sixth gear
In October 2012, Kia Motors issued Technical Service Bulletin KCE12-51-P090-TDAMUB for Kia UB Rio vehicles that were manufactured from 26 June 2012 to 4 July 2012. According to the service bulletin, the gearshift lever in these Kia Rio vehicles may accelerate while the vehicle was being driven or accelerating in sixth gear. If the manual transmission assembly was part of an affected lot no. (6/18, 6/19 or 6/20), the transmission assembly was to be replaced.
2012-14 model year Kia UB Rio: air conditioning update
Kia Motors issued Technical Service Bulletin KCE13-71-E040-UB for 2012-14 model year Kia UB Rio vehicles. According to the service bulletin, a software update for the Heater & A/Con Control Unit (FATC) was introduced for Kia Rio vehicles that had an ADS (Auto Defog System) to improve air conditioning logic.
2014-15 model year Kio UB Rio 1.4i with automatic transmission: software update
In March 2015, Kia Motors issued Technical Service Bulletin KCE14-52-E070-UB for 2014-15 model year Kia UB Rio vehicles that had:
- 1.4-litre petrol engines; and,
- automatic transmissions.
According to the service bulletin, a software upgrade for the transaxle control module (TCM) was introduced to improve shift control logic.
