Review: Mercedes-Benz W639.I Vito Wagon (2004-11)
Overview
Released in April 2004, the Mercedes-Benz W639 Series I (W639.I) Vito Wagon was an eight seat people mover. Manufactured in Germany, the rear-wheel drive Vito Wagon was initially available with a 2.1-litre turbo-diesel engine (the 115 CDI variant), though 3.2-litre V6 petrol engines (for the 119 P variants) were introduced in 2005.
The W639 Vito Wagon was 4993 mm long, 1901 mm wide, 1875 mm wide and had a 3200 mm long wheelbase. Furthermore, the Vito Wagon had dual sliding doors, folding second row seats and ‘Quick-Fit’ removable rear bench seats.
The W639 Vito Wagon had MacPherson strut front suspension and independent rear suspension with semi-trailing arms.

Safety equipment
Standard safety equipment for the Mercedes-Benz W639 Vito Wagon included dual front airbags, ABS, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control and front seatbelts with pre-tensioners and load limiters.
Euro NCAP crash testing
In Euro NCAP crash testing , a 2008 Mercedes-Benz Viano 2.2 CDI Trend – equipped with dual front airbags – received a four star adult occupant protection rating with a score of 30.66. ANCAP concluded that the right-hand drive Vito, if fitted with dual front airbags, could be expected to provide comparable front occupant protection to the left-hand drive Viano tested by Euro NCAP. In the offset crash test, protection from serious leg injury was marginal for the front occupants. In the side impact test, there was a slight risk of serious chest injury for the driver.

Standard features for the Mercedes-Benz Vito Wagon included an eight speaker sound system with CD player, front and rear air conditioning, front and rear fog lights, remote central locking, power windows and heated mirrors, four-way adjustable front seats, a height and reach adjustable steering wheel, 12 volt power outlet and immobiliser.
In March 2008, standard features were extended to include cruise control with speed alert.

Review: Mercedes-Benz W639.II Vito Wagon (2011-14)
Overview
Released in February 2011, the Mercedes-Benz W639 Series II (W639.II) Vito Wagon introduced Euro V emissions-compliant engines, revised suspension, improved safety equipment and additional features. Visually, the W639.II Vito Wagon could be identified by its revised front mask which included a new grille and headlights with LED running lights. Inside, there were more durable fabrics, new buttons on the upper control panel and a new colour display for the sound system.

ANCAP crash testing
Based on ANCAP crash testing of the Mercedes-Benz Vito Ambiente, W639 Vito Wagon models fitted with curtain airbags received a five star adult occupant protection rating due to an additional pole test in which two points were awarded.

Standard features for the Mercedes-Benz W639.II Vito Wagon were extended to include an auxiliary sound system input, MP3/WMA compatibility, Bluetooth connectivity and a multi-function steering wheel.
