Review: Renault X95.I Megane Coupe-Cabriolet (2010-13)

Overview

Released in October 2010, the Renault X95 Phase I (X95.I) Megane Coupe-Cabriolet (CC) was a two-door, four-seat convertible with a folding glass roof. Manufactured in Douai, France, the front-wheel drive X95 Megane Coupe-Cabriolet was powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that was mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with six pre-set ratios. Furthermore, the Megane Coupe-Cabriolet was solely available as a Dynamique variant.

MR20DE engine

The X95 Megane Coupe-Cabriolet was powered by an all-aluminium Nissan-Renault 2.0-litre MR20DE petrol engine which had double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, variable valve timing and a compression ratio of 10.2:1. The engine also featured equal runner lengths, a tumble control valve for the intake manifold, a ‘silent’ timing chain, mirror-finished crankshaft and camshaft journals and offset cylinder placement.

Dimensions and body

Compared to the X84 Megane Coupe-Cabriolet , the X95 Megane Coupe-Cabriolet was 130 mm longer (at 4485 mm), 34 mm wider (1811 mm), 33 mm taller (1437 mm) and had an 87 mm longer wheelbase (2609 mm). The body had additional reinforcement, including a double floor section at the front and stronger cross-bracing, resulting in a 30 per cent increase in torsional rigidity. Manufactured by Karmann, the tinted glass roof consisted of two glass panels that could fold into the boot in 21 seconds; a glass wind deflector also served to minimise cabin turbulence.

Suspension and steering

Like its predecessor, the front-wheel drive Megane Coupe-Cabriolet was fitted with MacPherson strut front suspension and a flexible programmed-deflection beam at the rear. The Megane Coupe-Cabriolet also had an electric power steering system with an inductive torque sensor.
