Review: Nissan GU.I Patrol cab chassis (1999-02)
Overview
Released in 1999, the Nissan GU Series I (GU.I) Patrol cab chassis was available with either 4.2-litre diesel or 4.2-litre turbo-diesel engines that were mated to five-speed manual transmissions. All models were equipped with a four-wheel drive system (including a limited slip differential), though buyers had a choice of coil spring or leaf spring suspension setups.

Features
Standard features for the Patrol DX included a two speaker sound system with a radio, cassette player and tilt adjustable steering wheel.
The Patrol ST added a CD player, central locking, power antenna, power windows and side steps.
Review: Nissan GU.II Patrol cab chassis (2003-06)
Overview
Released in February 2003, the GU Series II (GU.II) Patrol cab chassis range featured a simplified line-up as the 4.2-litre diesel-engined models discontinued. The 4.2-litre turbo-diesel was also more powerful, generating 360 Nm at 2000 rpm (up from 330 Nm for the GU.I).

October 2006: Patrol cab chassis update
From October 2006, all leaf-sprung DX variants and coil-sprung ST variants were fitted with dual front airbags as standard.
Review: Nissan GU.VI Patrol cab chassis (2007-16)
Overview
Released in October 2007, the GU Series VI (GU.VI) Patrol cab chassis introduced a new engine, with the 4.2-litre turbo-diesel replaced by a more powerful 3.0-litre unit. Although its predecessor was the GU.II Patrol, the series of the Patrol cab chassis reflected that of the Patrol wagon which was subject to more frequent updates.
In July 2011, the DX variant with coil spring suspension was discontinued.

Safety equipment
Standard safety equipment for the GU.VI Patrol cab chassis was unchanged; as such, all leaf-sprung DX and coil-sprung ST variants were fitted with dual front airbags as standard.
From September 2013, the Patrol DX was fitted with ABS as standard.
ANCAP crash testing
In ANCAP crash testing , a GU.VI Patrol cab chassis – equipped with dual front airbags – received a three star adult occupant protection rating with a score of 21.6 out of 37. In the offset crash test, the passenger compartment lost structural integrity and chest protection was marginal for both front occupants, while protection from serious leg injury was poor for the driver. In the side impact test, a default score was awarded.
Features
Standard features for the ST variant were extended as it was fitted with auxiliary audio inputs (USB and iPod) and Bluetooth connectivity.
